Biography

Founder and CEO of the women’s empowerment company, I AM THAT GIRL, Alexis Jones knows firsthand the power a positive self image has on the lives of young women, and all they can accomplish. As a former model, she has seen the affects of the beauty industry, both positive and negative. As a television personality, where she recently competed on the widely viewed reality show “Survivor: Fans vs. Favorites,” she has come to learn the power of the media’s influences on American culture. As a student who earned a Masters degree before her 22nd birthday, she knows the unique pressures facing today’s graduates to be faster, smarter and more competitive, in more areas of their lives, than previous generations. Having currently filmed a new travel show, she understands the responsibility and influence her celebrity status has on young women. She has used these perspectives to build a life full of achievements; many don’t arrive at, at even twice her age. She is a professional motivational speaker and a refreshing and unique voice, offering an expertise on self-esteem enhancement from the perspectives of an entrepreneur and an adventurer. Alexis is also a member of the all too often misunderstood Millennial Generation (aka Generation Y) which makes her incredibly effective when offering her personal experiences and insight on the increasing pressures and expectations facing today’s youth.

Many describe Milennials as the “overscheduled” generation, but Alexis manages multiple roles, with an insistence on putting forth her maximum effort while maintaining an emotional and physical balance in herself. This has taken this Austin, Texas native from a successful modeling career where she graced the covers of magazines, to being Sports Illustrated’s celebrity “go to girl” for sports, to completing a Bachelor's degree in International Relations and Spanish and a Master's degree in Communications Management from USC.

She has hiked 150 miles to the base camp of Mt. Everest, won an exciting Show Case Show Down on the Price is Right and survived a full 35 days, subsisting on the bare minimum allotments of food, clothing, and shelter in Micronesia before being eliminated from the television show Survivor.

In an effort to inspire and lend voice to the thousands of young women in the US seeking positive role models that embody intelligence, accomplishment and balance in life, Alexis founded I AM THAT GIRL, a company that is dedicated to redefining society’s narrow definition of “beauty” and instilling an authentic confidence in girls and women everywhere. It encourages education, providing positive female role models and inspiring girls to dream big while providing tangible tools and resources to make their goals attainable. Through her work with this company, she and her staff known as the “I am That Girl Dream Team,” offer workshops, seminars, one-on-one life coaching and serve as examples of the power of positive self-esteem in the lives of young women. In August 2008 the company launched www.IAMTHATGIRL.com, an interactive online magazine that offers young women seeking intelligent, impassioned viewpoints on what it means to be a young woman in today’s America and how to take that definition to reach your ultimate goals.

Alexis is currently working on two books. The first is an empowerment book entitled "I am That Girl: Death to the Comatose Barbie." This book is Alexis’ guide to being smart, savvy and successful despite the high expectations and the pressures facing young women today. She includes several of her own personal struggles, triumphs and life insights into becoming, “That Girl.” The second is a book commissioned by the publisher Clint Greenleaf called, "Daddy's Little Girl," a father's guide to raising a happy, healthy, confident daughter. Alexis is the current expert on confidence and self-esteem for young women facing a world of increasing expectations and serves as the prominent voice for a new wave of feminism. She has coined the term “bellism:” a new study of modern media’s distortion of the feminine image and a movement to empowering women by redefining, within young women of generation Y, the narrow definition of “beauty.”
